A little over 500 years ago , when Hernán Cortés and the first conquerors arrived in the New World , there was a woman to whom history has given many names; Marina, Malintzin, Malinalli or Malinche was the lover, translator and interpreter of Hernan Cortés during the conquest and, therefore, a key player in the fall of the Mexica Empire. To date, Malinche is considered the great traitor in the history of Mexico.
From her name comes the term malinchismo which, according to the Mexican Academy of Language , refers to Malinche's preference for a foreigner. It is the " attitude of those who show attachment to the foreign with contempt for their own." From this same name comes the adjective malinchista , referring to the person «who shows attachment to the foreign with contempt for his own ».
This blind preference for what is foreign can be seen in many attitudes and choices of Mexicans; from preferring drinks or products only because of the foreign name or brand , to praising the work of foreign companies or preferential treatment of foreigners or people with "non-Mexican" physical features.
In his essay "Philosophical Malinchism and Mexican Thought," Alejandro Tomassini Bassols, a researcher at UNAM , explains malinchism as a category of local analysis , which applies almost exclusively to the Mexican case. He even describes it as a "national disease" , since it is very rare to see it in other countries of the world.
Although the outlook against malinchismo seems very pessimistic , there is a light at the end of the road. For some years there has been an increase in the consumption of local products. This economic growth brings a great local economic benefit that has increased, for better or worse, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gracias !!!!
