Shoes are our business card. Wearing clean and shiny shoes builds confidence and gives an elegant, responsible and hygienic image.
Those who know say that leather is the best material for making shoes, especially for those with delicate or diabetic feet. Do you know why? We'll tell you then:
-
Leather shoes do not have internal seams, thus avoiding chafing, wounds and blisters.
Leather is a natural, flexible and soft material, far superior to any synthetic. With one or two uses, the shoe will fit your foot like a glove, preventing chafing and discomfort.
-
As the leather is softer and more flexible, it is much more durable than synthetic materials, since it does not crack when walking. With good care, a pair of leather shoes should last between 5 and 10 years.
The skin is a very benevolent material with the human body, as it acts as a second layer. It allows the foot to perspire, absorbs sweat and maintains a suitable temperature, neither too hot nor too cold.
There are also different types of leather, with different finishes and care. At Regina Romero we want you to extend the life of your shoes as much as possible. Below, we share the different types of leather that exist, what they are used for and some tips so you can take care of your shoes at home. Choosing the material of your shoes will also give a unique touch to your style, just as it happens with the clothes.
This type of leather is the most exclusive. It is the leather in its natural state, it does not have any type of coating and it is common to see the imperfections of this material. Almost all the models in Regina Romero are created with this specific skin.
It is the easiest material to clean and, as it is very resistant, it is difficult for scratches or scratches to be made, although it can happen. To clean it, we recommend using a chamois or, failing that, a microfiber cloth (which does not leave lint).
If they're only a little dusty, rub them down with a chamois cloth before using them.
-
Wipe away dirt with a damp cloth or soft bristle brush.
Apply the cleaning bitumen according to the tone or colourless. Let dry.
Remove the bitumen with a soft brush to give them shine.
Pro tip: once clean, pass your chamois a few times and you will see how it acquires a spectacular shine.
The suede or split leather is the inner layer of the skin. It comes from slightly thicker pieces of leather since, to achieve its characteristic texture, it has to be sanded a little. It is a super breathable skin type.
Nubuck also has a soft and velvety appearance, which is why it is often confused with suede. However, although both come from sanding, nubuck is the outer part of the leather.
Both types of leather, both suede and nubuck, require very similar care. Remember to use soft bristle brushes and microfiber cloths. To clean the suede, have a crumb school eraser handy, it will be very useful.
-
If they're just a little dusty, brush them in the direction of the material's pile.
If there are any small stains, rub lightly with the rubber and then brush off the remains.
With stubborn stains you can try moistening your cloth with white vinegar and rubbing gently. Remove excess with an absorbent towel. Let dry.
Brush one last time in the direction of the hair.
Pro tip : if your shoes have water stains, moisten them evenly with a cloth, place newspaper inside so they don't get deformed and let them dry for approx. 24 hours in a dry place without sunlight.
The characteristic shine of patent leather is obtained thanks to a treatment of polyurethane layers on the leather. This makes it very resistant to rain and on fine materials like the ones we use at Regina Romero, it is possible to polish away imperfections.
In any case, you have to be very careful in its use and cleaning. For this material it is more advisable to use 100% cotton rags.
If they're just a little dusty, wipe them off with a damp cloth and let them dry.
-
With a dry cloth, apply special cream for patent leather, you can find it in some shoe stores or leather stores.
Remove the product with your cotton cloth, rubbing it lightly to make it shine.
Pro tip : if you can't find the special cream, you can use Vaseline or a little olive oil and you'll have the same result.
As a final note, always try to clean them before use and store them properly to keep them from losing their shape.
Our best sellers are those with timeless designs and, with proper care , you can wear them for many seasons and always look flawless. Also, it is recommended that you take your shoes at least once a year to your trusted shoemaker for a complete cleaning.
