How is a skin metallized?

At Regina Romero we decided to incorporate the brilliance of metal into our designs . Some of our models are completely metallic , while others only incorporate small details , either in hardware or metallic textures .

In order to create a skin with that characteristic glow of metal , it must be subjected to a technical process . This trend comes from Europe, specifically from Italy.

It must be recognized that the Italians are pioneers in everything that has to do with procedures for the skin . In this article we tell you how to achieve a metallic finish on the skin.

There are two main techniques . The first consists of using foils (a coating that gives it that characteristic sparkle ); the ones we use are Italian. For this process, aniline-tanned leather is used , already pigmented with a base tone so that the blade can give it a silver, gold or “animal print” texture finish . The foil is then placed on top of the skin and passed through a roller that applies pressure and heat at the same time to make it adhere. In this way it is almost impossible for the foil to come off, creating the glossy finish that we like so much.

The second option consists of using pigments in which that brilliance is already included . In this case, it is also required that the leather has been tanned with aniline in the desired base tone, to subsequently add the metallic pigment . These dyes are specially made with chemical products that dye the skin with the help of industrial machines that spread the pigment evenly, creating a uniform finish .

With both processes , the leather maintains those qualities that we all love: softness, elasticity, breathability and a natural texture .
