It is no secret that art is inspired by itself. It is normal to see fragments of literature converted into plastic work or opera. References to paintings in cinematography are almost endless, it is even common to see architectural elements whose symbology has a strong relationship with some other of the fine arts.

Fashion , despite not being considered as one of the Fine Arts, is one of the most important aesthetic expressions in everyday life because we live our lives in it. It is a form of individual expression that, at the same time, can create a sense of belonging to a group.

In 1909 , the poet FT Marinetti published his manifesto entitled " Le Futurisme " , which launched one of the most influential avant -gardes of the 20th century: Futurism. These principles were directed primarily at the visual arts and urged them to reject the classical values of art and anthropocentrism.

The main themes of this avant-garde were machinery and movement. They sought to break the adoration for the past that had permeated during the previous two centuries and the traditional aesthetic , full of classical rules and proportions. This movement is described by various art critics as a "dynamic cubism" that represents moving bodies and objects using the same color in different shades.

The artists of this avant-garde extolled the contemporary, modern lifestyle full of technological advances. Their goal was to rejuvenate a society that they conceived as archaic and build a new order in the world. The impetus for this movement was lost after World War II; however, with the turn of the century , ca 1995, some of its principles were taken up again thanks to the fascination for new technologies rediscovered during these years.

The fashion of the 90's was full of metallic elements , from chains and studs in the grunge style , to completely silver or gold haute couture pieces. Metallic flashes and rigid structures were used to symbolize the passage to a new era.
VALERY MODEL
While touches of glitter, silver, and gold have never completely left the world of couture, the mid - 2010s saw a strong comeback of completely futuristic looks . In 2016 the theme of the Met Gala was nothing more and nothing less than «Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology» a theme that sought to break the dichotomy between handmade fashion and technological intervention.
With the nostalgic but predictable return of the Y2K style , the impact of audiovisual works such as «Euphoria» , the growing interest in science fiction cinematography with works such as «Westworld» or «Dune» and the rapid advance of technologies that a few years ago perished removed from a movie , like the metaverse , it is possible to say that the metallic flashes will not go anywhere , at least in a few years.
