In my family we value fashion and innovation, we believe in constantly reinventing ourselves. However, we also consider it very important to preserve the traditions and customs of what is valuable.
Regina Romero as a company was born in 1984 as an initiative of my mother Regina Calzada de Romero. For her, it was always very important to preserve the traditional way of making shoes: by hand. We believe in the value of handmade products and items. We know that the experience of a leather shoe made by hand is not comparable to one made of synthetic material made with machinery. They are different products.
Making Regina Romero shoes takes, on average, 90 manual processes. This journey begins with the selection of the finest and best tanned leather for the creation of your shoes.
Once you have the leather in the factory, you start by cutting the leather into the different pieces that will be part of your footwear, each of these pieces is cut by the expert hands of some of our collaborators.
When this process is done by hand, the worker can see the scars or imperfections that the skin may have to avoid them. In addition to preventing skin that is in good condition from being wasted. Even though the pieces are cut from a template, each piece is unique.
Subsequently, the already cut skin is taken to the stitching or machining area where a professional joins all the pieces like a puzzle and sews them with the help of a sewing machine. This part of the transformation is hypnotizing, seeing how the pieces come together to give the silhouette of the shoe and being able to admire how one of our collaborators with so much experience and mastery manages to give the exact stitches is fascinating.
Each one of our machinists knows perfectly the treatment that should be given to the skin, the needles must be used depending on the type of skin that it is. They know that delicate and fine skins, like the ones we use at Regina Romero, must be sewn with fine needles and fine stitches so as not to mistreat or break the skin. This care can only be given to the skin when this part is done by hand, otherwise it is exposed to unwanted wrinkles, tears and cuts.
Once all the pieces are together, they are taken to the assembly area. The expert places the pieces on the last and feels, with his own hands, the leather to make sure that all the pieces are in place and that the machining is perfect.
The worker begins to shape the shoe, making sure that it is perfectly fitting the last so that the comfort of the shoe is maximum. Later, our collaborator will give the last touches with a hammer to perfectly fix the leather to the last. Every millimeter of the shoe is reviewed by a professional to ensure that the shoe remains like a work of art, and is a unique piece.
After this we continue with the next step, glue the sole. For this, the base of the shoe is covered with a special water-based glue, which does not harm the ecosystem , to immediately stick and secure the sole.
Our soles are made to measure for each last and almost all of them are made of leather. Once the glue is dry, the shoe is removed from the last to be taken to the final decorated area.
In this area, all the details are reviewed, the edges of the lining are removed, the laces or fittings are mounted, templates are added, the numbering is marked, etc. To conclude this part, a final cleaning is done on the shoes to remove any traces that may have arisen during the assembly process and the leather is lubricated with a special cream to make it look shiny; This cream also helps protect footwear and extend its life.
Finally, the shoes are sent to the warehouse where they go through a final quality review and are packed in their individual box with the love that characterizes us, so that, finally: You receive the best shoes in Mexico at the door of your house , handmade and 100% leather that you can enjoy for many seasons.
This whole process takes a long time, around 6 weeks. Each pair of shoes passes through more than 30 expert hands of Mexican artisans with years of experience in this industry, who review and verify the creation of your shoes step by step, so that the quality and comfort is impeccable in each one.
All of this turns your Regina Romero shoes into a true work of art, which is not only filled with a lot of effort, dedication and love from me and our expert collaborators, they also have a unique story to tell and one that will continue to be written when they are ready. with you.
Made to give you exclusivity and steeped in tradition and passion, each of our shoes is exceptional just like you.
