I never imagined that writing this blog would stir so many emotions within me.
Recounting the facts, I realize that although we closed at the end of 2015, this event is a series of events that had been taking place since 2005.
Around 2005, a large import of synthetic shoes from China entered Mexico, which had a great impact on the entire national footwear industry.
For Regina Romero, since we design and manufacture fine leather shoes, it did not affect us so much initially. Around this time, my dad passed away after a long illness, which had an impact on the family mood.
Shortly after, the market was opened to the importation of footwear from Brazil, Spain and Italy, a part of the market migrated to consume imported products.
To be honest, because the entry of the foreign product was gradual and we were already restructuring ourselves without my father and mother in charge, we did not know how to react immediately to the new foreign competitors.
This fact unfortunately took many Mexican brands out of the market. We, due to our quality, were able to maintain ourselves, not easily, during those years of the "imported novelty".
In addition, around 2011-2012, Presidente Masaryk avenue underwent a remodeling process that took much longer than expected, which ended up seriously affecting us.
Fortunately, El Palacio de Hierro, which remodeled its store in Polanco, creating El Palacio de los Palacios, offered us a special space for the brand.
Due to the above, we had to make the sad decision to close in 2015 the store that, with much love, my mother opened and personally attended for 31 years.
Starting in 2017, I led the transformation of the brand. My vision, now with new partners who believe in Regina Romero and above all in the talent, creativity, quality and professionalism of committed Mexicans, is that we have given a very important turn to the brand. Part of this transformation was the creation of the online boutique and export.
To finish, I want to tell you that even in the most complicated and difficult times, both my mom and I have never sacrificed quality.
If you are reading this email, I want to thank you with my heart in my hand, for your support, trust and solidarity. And you can tell that we are giving our 100% to continue designing and manufacturing the best shoes in Mexico.
Now the good news:
Next week, we will open our new store, which is located at Monte Libano 250, Lomas de Chapultepec, in Mexico City. I hope you visit us soon.
Thank you for being part of this journey, history and experience of the only 40-year-old Mexican fashion brand created by a Mexican woman.
Thank you very much and blessings,
George Romero
