Pink October

17 October 2023

Every October 19, around the world, many people add a small pink ribbon to their wardrobe, or at least one piece of clothing of this color to commemorate World Breast Cancer Day. This color badge is the most used symbol to represent this fight and raise awareness among the population about it.
For us, women are a fundamental part of life as human beings and of our company. Our founder, Regina Calzada de Romero, is an example of life, effort and fighting for her dreams. Furthermore, the majority of our team is made up of valuable women who pursue their goals every day. But it is impossible to fight for your dreams under the shadow of an illness, so today we want to talk to you about this topic.

The color pink commemorates the participants of a marathon in the United States that they carried out after surviving this terrible disease. In the late 1990s, the Susan G. Komen Foundation gave away pink caps as a symbol of resistance. This is how this delicate tone became a powerful fighting nuance.
Subsequently, the World Health Organization (WHO) selected October 19 to commemorate and raise awareness. Many brands and organizations have joined this effort, with various communication campaigns and dissemination of prevention materials.
Every year, various brands demonstrate by lighting up in pink, to symbolize the fight against this condition.
This preventive behavior is essential for survival. The importance of this day also lies in the fact that early detection guarantees a greater probability of success in the treatment of this disease. And, despite collective efforts, the statistics continue to be extremely painful.
In 2020, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide, and 685,000 died from the disease. At the end of the same year, 7.8 million women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in the previous five years were still alive, making this cancer the most prevalent cancer in the world. Breast cancer affects women of any age after puberty in all countries of the world, but rates are higher among adult women.
Specifically in Mexico, in 2014, 11,372 new cases of breast cancer were registered with an incidence rate of 22.56 per 100,000 inhabitants over 10 years of age.
In the specific group of women aged 25 years and older, in 2015, 6,252 deaths were recorded in women with a crude rate of 18 deaths per 100,000 women. The entities with the highest mortality from breast cancer are: Sonora (28.6), Nuevo León (26), Coahuila (25.7), Chihuahua (24.8), CDMX (24.7) and Sinaloa (22.2).
The average age of presentation of breast cancer cases is 54.9 years, the highest incidence in the number of cases is recorded in the group of 50 to 59 years with 45% of all cases, reaffirming that it affects much more to older women, but young women are not exempt.
The best way to be alert is to perform an exam, with some frequency, which consists of a few simple steps and can be done in the privacy of your home. If you notice any irregularity such as a new lump in the breast or armpit, increased thickness or swelling of a part of the breast , irritation or depression in the skin of the breast , and redness or peeling in the nipple or breast area , it will be time for a professional review.
Fortunately, there are civil associations that offer free mammograms, such as FUCAM (Breast Cancer Foundation), which offers 70 of these services a day for people living in Mexico City.
A self-examination can save your life. Today, in gratitude for choosing us to accompany you every step of the way, we want to raise awareness of this disease and invite you to take care of the most valuable thing you have: yourself.
