Did you know that the State of Oaxaca has 570 municipalities ? Yes, it is the State with the largest number of municipalities in all of Mexico . It has a total population of 4 million 132 thousand 138 people - according to the 2020 census - and is home to around 19 living indigenous peoples . Furthermore, in recent decades, Oaxaca has become an important tourist center thanks to its beaches , archaeological areas , magical towns and much more.

But... why do we tell you about this incredible State of our country? Oaxaca is also the land that saw the birth of great personalities—like Benito Juárez—and, above all, great women . María Sabina, Lila Downs, Irma Pineda Santiago and Yalitza Aparicio are from the same State and it is precisely them who inspired part of the Mexicanas Chidas project .

Mexicanas Chidas is a collaborative project that seeks to publish , print and distribute children's books , aimed especially at girls and young women with the purpose of empowering them with stories of successful Mexican women who, like them, fight for their dreams in all areas. work fields.

A few months ago we had the opportunity to collaborate with Mexicanas Chidas and thus, we managed to add the story of Regina Romero , a woman who , like all those with whom she shares pages, is an inspiration for many .

But our love for Oaxaca does not end there. This place is also home to Mexican brands that are founded on tradition and prestige . Moravy is a haute couture brand with original , Mexican designs and, most of all, with indigenous influence . This brand was created by Ivette Morán de Murat , originally from Oaxaca, who works directly with artisans from Santa María Zacatepec, San Pedro de Mitla, Pinotepa de Don Luis and more.

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week we participated in the Moravy fashion show where she presented her collection inspired by the wealth of Oaxaca . Ivette expressed that much of her work is based on " defending fair trade , rewarding the efforts of the artisan, and respecting their iconography and color [these] are the principles on which I base my brand ." This year Morán decided to accompany his footwear designs 100% made in Mexico , courtesy of Regina Romero .

In this parade we had a small taste of everything that the State of Oaxaca can offer us . A place full of history and that maintains a latent connection with the pre-Hispanic past . Thanks to the work and dedication of these artisans we can have a living link to the past . This and much more is why we love Oaxaca .
