In theearly 1990s , Mexican customsprohibited imports of any type of footwear. All the shoes that were sold within the country were made in Mexico; however, the quality was not always the best.In those years , my mother, Regina Calzada de Romero, and Idecided to take atrip to Italywith the intention ofperfecting our method.
We chose Italy because thefootwear industryin this country has one of thehighest quality standards in the world. In addition, themanufacturing processcontinues to be, mostlyhandmade, a very important factor for us.Great designersand fashion houses such asSalvatore Ferragamo,Guccio GucciorMario Pradahave emerged from this country.
During that trip we had the opportunity to visit anexhibition of suppliersfor footwear. There,we metabusinessmanwho wasdedicated to the machineryfor shoes. We expressed our interest inlearning some of the secretsof the Italian school andhe, neither slow nor lazy, saw theopportunity to exportsome of his products to Mexico: theraw materialwas not prohibited.
That's how he contacted us with one of thebest modelersI've ever met who was also Violacci 's manager: Nino Calzolari, one of the most recognized and prestigious brands during that time. Thanks to him, welearned to make shoes just like the Italians. We decidedto invite him to Mexicoso he could get to know our workplace and our people, and passonsome of hisbest advice along the way .
He shared with us thatto createa spectacular pair ofshoesyou needthree things:creativity, technique and attention to detail. To date, this is one of the phrases that I remember the most every day. In this way we began to see howproducts made in Mexico could have a quality equal to that of the Italian school.
He taught us to give adefined structureto our processes; tomeasurethelaststo adapt them to our market and showed us some procedures tooptimizeourcuts and stitching, all with theimpeccable Italian technique. He was surprised by thespectacular workforcethat we have inMexicoand assured thatthe keyis toknow how to do it. Once you have your process well articulated, the rest ispractice, effort and passion.
Ittook us a while to perfect the techniquebut we finally succeeded. Today, many years later, we can say that we havedeveloped our ownshoe manufacturing process, which asks nothing of the Italian. It isbased on our strengths, buttaking into account our weaknesses, always maintaining thehighest quality standards of the international industry, in order to provide you with the best shoes in Mexico.
