In the year 1760, in England, a process began that would completely change our way of life. The invention of the steam engine brought about the arrival of the Industrial Revolution . This process caused a large part of the population that lived in rural areas to move to cities in search of better opportunities. By the mid-19th century, the countryside had become almost uninhabited, and the English nation began a transition to urbanization.
The efficiency of the steam engine increased the production of goods (clothes, shoes, food, etc.) exponentially. In this way, prices were lowered and a greater part of the population was able to have access to products that would previously have been unthinkable.
This in turn created a consumption system based on supply and demand according to public preferences. Despite the fact that this process ended more than 150 years ago, its impact was so great that, to date, our economy is governed by the same "supply-demand" consumption system.
Responsible consumption is an attitude that seeks for customers to make ethical, conscious and critical purchases. And it is that the exploitation of the environment and, in many cases, of impoverished people, are the bases of the dominant productive system.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting and, therefore, least sustainable. If you want to know more about it, you can read our blog “ Slow Fashion vs Fast Fashion ”.
At Regina Romero we know all the consequences that this production model brings with it. That is why we continue to opt for an artisanal production chain and a slow fashion type system .
In this way, we ensure that our products are responsible with the environment and are society. All the skins that we choose to create our footwear are a by-product of the meat industry. We also treat them with vegetable substrates to avoid toxic chemicals.
To this we must add that all the elements necessary to create a pair of Regina Romero are 100% Mexican. From the leather, the soles, the hardware, even the laces are made in Mexico by Mexicans. In this way we support the national economy and ensure a fair price for our producers and collaborators.
Below, we present the points that international organizations , such as Greenpeace, have determined for a product to enter the category of responsible consumption:
Low carbon emissions.
-
Closeness between producers and consumers
Environmentally friendly production.
Minimal or no use of harmful chemicals.
Sustainable water management.
Promotion of biodiversity and maintenance of ecosystems.
Fair trade and socially responsible.
Inclusive and transparent decision making.
Transparent trade.
As consumers, we have the power to change this harmful form of consumption. It is in our hands to demand that companies have transparent processes to make our purchases in an informed manner .
At Regina Romero we try to make our processes as transparent as possible with you, our clients. We like that they know our processes and the people behind each of them. We want that, when they buy our products, they can be sure that they are part of responsible consumption .
Why we? When we choose to wear a pair of Regina Romero over other shoes, we can enjoy high design , a totally Mexican product and perfectly cared for manufacturing .
Although the great designers have been our inspiration and will never cease to be an object of desire, we have created a brand governed by that quality. The quality of our shoes is comparable to that of the great brands that created powerful canons in the history of fashion. Choosing us implies an exchange of Mexicans for Mexicans .
