May 10 is always the perfect excuse to honor our mothers. My mother, Regina Calzada de Romero, is the wisest woman I know; I am who I am because of her.
Since I was very little, she instilled in my brothers and me values such as respect, commitment and passion. In this article I want to share with you a bit of that wisdom that characterizes her so much with nine pieces of advice that she has given me over the years.
“When you live with other people, always be authentic; do things with love and from the heart, without looking for anything in return, this way you will cultivate healthy friendships, strong and sincere relationships and lasting family ties.”
“In the face of adversity, never believe that your dreams are difficult to achieve or impossible. Optimism will give you a strong impetus to move forward. Do not forget to put your feet on the ground, as this will give you the possibility to start and that your goals are always attainable.”
“The only way to know who we are is through the truth. Being honest with yourself is the best way to get to know yourself and what it is that you really want in your life. Honesty is directly related to authenticity, so it will be the best way to discover yourself.”
“I decided to marry for love. That was my only reason and I think it should always be for anyone who wants to join their life to another person in such a strong commitment. Love is an extremely powerful force that helps us build and grow as human beings. When I chose Carlos, I was young and totally in love, I didn't need any more reasons to decide."
“No one is taught to be a mother, but everything is easier with love. Trust yourself and be sure that you will take care of your little ones in the best way, because as a mother you will always want the best for them. Each woman is unique and that is also reflected in her motherhood, so with love, you will do well.”
“In three years I had four children and I think that the best way to achieve a pleasant coexistence among them while they were growing up was identifying that each one had their qualities and strengths. As unique people, I preferred that each one develop their talents and not make their differences a competition. When you respect and understand the personality of your children, they perceive it and develop better as human beings.”
