It is very likely that this season, we want to give a luxury item as a gift and, due to the convenience that this implies, we buy it online.
With technological advancement and strong growth in e-commerce during the pandemic, online shopping became one of the best alternatives — and sometimes the only one — to purchase products of all kinds. Unfortunately, with greater technological advances, the different forms of fraud also become more sophisticated. All brands are attacked by piracy and scammers at some point; and the luxury ones, even more so. Falling into a scam of this kind has a financial impact — for obvious reasons — but also an emotional one.
Some scams arrive via SMS or Whatsapp, offering jobs, prizes or warning about a possible danger in banking transactions.
Digital scams are frauds that are carried out over the Internet, using different techniques to get people to give their personal information or money to cybercriminals. According to the National Survey on Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Homes ( ENDUTIH ), it indicates that in 2022 there were 93.1 million internet users in Mexico. It is important to have tools to avoid falling into these cases.
In the case of luxury or high-value items, a particular case occurs. The reputation of luxury brands is used to make users open dangerous links or simply believe that they can purchase their products at an incredibly low price. The impersonation of luxury brands gives false security to the buyer.
Some websites are very well replicated, making it easier for the scam to be effective.
Scammers can create very convincing emails or advertisements promising huge discounts. The shopping frenzy prevents us from noticing certain details. A deeper look at the email addresses or the writing, sometimes of the same name of the brand , can save us from a scam or from purchasing a pirated item. Today, the replica market represents 20% of the global industry, putting authenticity and quality at risk.
Sometimes there are also links or ads that lead to a site that is practically identical to the original brand. The real trap for buyers is even more dangerous than it seems: these sites will almost certainly ask for sensitive data and card numbers to be entered.
During the Buen Fin season, hundreds of advertisements with fake offers appeared in Mexico.

Muchas gracias por el blog! En el buen fin a mi hermana le apareció un anuncio de Regina Romero donde unos zapatos, que a ella le gustaron, costaban menos de quinientos pesos. Me contactó para que se los comprara. Ingresé en la página oficial de la tienda y no ví esas ofertas, el descuento de la tienda oficial era 20%. Le dije a mi hermana que no podía ser cierta esa página donde vió las ofertas porque la tienda oficial tenía descuento del 20% y ningún par de Regina Romero costaba menos de dos mil pesos.
