1980, an iconic shoe.
Since the beginning of luxury fashion brands, there have been pieces that became "iconic". From the Birkin bag by Hermès, the Tweed jacket by Chanel, the little black dress by Givenchy, among many other pieces.
One question designers get is “How did you create a piece that you knew would be unforgettable?” The reality is that there is no magic recipe, nor a specific design and creation process, it just happens.
However, at Regina Romero we know everything that had to happen for our 1980 platform to become a best seller, a pair of shoes that many women in Mexico and around the world now have in their closets.
It all starts in the design studio within our Mexico City offices. Many proposals are drawn and design committee meetings are held to make adjustments, combinations, changes and generate more ideas.

Once the final design is landed, a technical drawing is made in which all the details of the shoe are specified: pieces, seams, perforations, finishes, hardware, etc. We like to see things come to life, so in our workshop we make prototypes of the shoes before creating the initial mold of the new design.
Once the design is approved and perfectly adapted to the anatomy of our lasts, our insta pattern takes the initial mold and sends it to our factory to make a real leather sample with all the design specifications. By 1980, we decided to innovate and do laser drilling. It was made in a black Napa of the best quality, and finished with a leather sole with the edge painted in black and its interiors in the same tone. All these details must be very specific so that the sample comes out perfect.

The leather we use comes from the best fur shops in the country, we always seek to promote and support both companies and Mexican workers. Hands full of talent, passion, experience and love for their work. These ingredients are also reflected in the final product.
Once the sample is finished, we receive it in our offices and start with the tests and adjustments. An exact Mexican size 4 model tries on the shoes and we make any necessary adjustments to get it painted on the foot. All our lasts are developed by the brand, they were tested and proven to be the most comfortable. Their unique three-dimensionality makes them super comfortable and ideal for any foot that uses our shoes.
In the same way, we began to do product, artistic and model photo shoots to be able to show off the shoe on all our digital platforms.

We dare to say that it is the product of the passion, experience, dedication, attention to detail, quality, creativity, excellence, taste and talent of each person who was involved in the process. Values that are reflected in the work of Regina Romero, and that are transmitted to our clients, to the thousands of women who share these same values with us.
