Regina Romero

Regina Romero is a Mexican shoe house founded by Regina Calzada de Romero. Since 1964 we have worked leather with the same idea: to make shoes that feel as good as they look, and that last.

Italian-school design, handmade in our workshop. Three generations later, we are still a family house.

Three generations of women in the family, together

What we believe in

We believe no woman gets where she is alone. Each one travels a path marked by those who came before her, and what she learns becomes part of another woman's path.

This is how this house has been built over three generations: the craft, the knowledge and the passion passed from hand to hand until they stayed in every pair. With Steps We Share we open that way of making to all women, to share what we learned by walking and to go further together.

Our story

It all began with one woman. Regina Calzada was born in Teapa, Tabasco, in 1934, and before making shoes she learned to understand leather: its grain, its weight, the way it changes over time.

She was the first to put the name of a Mexican woman on a women's shoe brand, and she gave the house the idea that still guides it: a shoe has to feel as good as it looks. This is her story and that of the family that followed her.

Leather and craft

Regina Calzada and Carlos Romero Huxley enter the world of leather through the Tenería Cuauhtémoc tannery in Monterrey. There they learn to read leather: its grain, its weight, the way it changes over time. In 1973 Regina travels to San Mauro Pascoli, in Italy, one of the birthplaces of the women's shoe, to learn how to make them. She returns to Mexico and opens her own factory with an idea that has not changed: a shoe that feels as good as it looks.

A house with her name

In 1984 she opens the first boutique, on Presidente Masaryk in Mexico City, and Regina Romero becomes the first Mexican women's shoe brand carrying the name of a Mexican woman. Over the years, her children take up the craft: Jorge Romero Calzada takes over the direction and Juan Carlos trains at Arsutoria, in Milan. The collections change; the way each pair is made does not.

Steps We Share

We opened our online store to reach women all over Mexico, and in the workshop we switched to water-based adhesives: the same care, also in what you cannot see. In 2026 we decided to open the house. After more than two million pairs, we invite all women to share their steps and to build with us what comes next. In the workshop, every pair is still made by hand, as on the first day.

OUR SHOES

Brown leather lace-up shoes with a thick white sole, on the feet of a woman in linen trousers

100% LEATHER

We choose leather for its quality, its character and the way it ages. We use it outside and inside, so the shoe breathes,
adapts to your foot and stays with you for years.
