For a couple of years now I have noticed in the news and in the streets a kind of awakening of the collective consciousness . I have seen how many groups raise their voices in search of rights and against injustices but, most importantly, there is a change of mentality in society; there is an atmosphere of hope very similar to that of the 70's.

During this decade there were several social movements that revolutionized our way of relating. On the one hand, there were countercultures such as the punk movement , which presented itself with a violent aesthetic before a conservative society.

On the other hand, disco fashion emerged , which comes mainly from the African-American neighborhoods of New York , with revealing looks that invited fun.

The 1970s also witnessed the first manifestations of the LGBTQ+ community , such as the Stonewall riots (1969) and the search for dignified treatment for people living with HIV. Musicians like David Bowie and Freddy Mercury became ambassadors for these causes.

In addition, it was also at this time that the third wave of feminism saw its rise. The contraceptive pill has become a cornerstone of the right to decide.

However, the need for political, professional and salary equality was also highlighted. Women began to take over public space and more and more women were seen in positions of greater weight, such as senators or businesswomen.

In my memory the image of my mother is very present , always as a tireless woman who went for her dreams regardless of the difficulties.

When I was little, I was very moved to see more and more women taking a strong stand to defend their principles and rights. Today I feel very lucky to be able to share spaces with women who are the result of these feminist ideals of the 70's.

All these movements and social conflicts had their impact on fashion. Today it is very common to find combat boots anywhere, we owe this largely to punk fashion .

Another good example is the platforms that seem to be back to stay; For the disco aesthetic , high-rise shoes were the favorites, not to mention the colorful rainbow that was claimed by the lgbtq+ community as its flag.

Likewise, as women advanced in taking over public space , sacrificing comfort was no longer an option. All clothing , accessories, clothing and footwear were modified to work with the new lifestyle of women, because fashion is a reflection of what we live and a means of expression.

Women today break all stereotypes . _ They are strong women who fight for what they want and do not remain silent in the face of injustice. I am more convinced than ever that the purpose of these social uprisings is to reconnect with the essence of humanity and I am grateful to be able to witness and support it.
